Welcome to Fifth Grade
All About Me
HI! I am Mrs. Lyon and I will be your
Fifth Grade teacher! I am so excited for this school year to begin! I have been
working hard all summer to get ready for this year.
This is my 20th year teaching in the Fairfield School
District and my 18th year teaching fifth grade. I know that this
year it is a big change moving to the middle school. I will do the best that I can to make it go
smoothly. If you ever have any concerns
please let me know.
I live south of Birmingham, about 14 miles south of Fairfield. We live on a farm. My husband, Troy, is a farmer. We have two daughters and a son. Our oldest, Mallory, will be a sophomore this
year. Our second daughter, Grace, is a seventh
grader. Our youngest, Andin, will be in third
grade.
We had a great summer hanging out
together and doing a lot of family things.
We usually do a lot of camping during the summer, but this year we took
a longer trip to North Carolina. We went
to the ocean and enjoyed all the fresh sea food that was avaliable there!
Blog
I have a blog that I use during the year
to post happenings in our classroom, picutures, study guides, spelling lists,
and much more. Please consider following my blog. You can sign up on it to get an email
notification when I post something new.
It is a great way to find out what we’ve been up to at school.

Trojan
PRIDE
The Fairfield Middle School is a PBIS
school. PBIS stands for Positive
Behavior Intervention and Supports. We
follow Trojan PRIDE. We use Trojan PRIDE
in every space of our school. Teachers
will give out tickets to students that they see showing their PRIDE. Every month names are drawn and those
students are able to choose a prize. When your child gets their assignment
journal you will notice a PRIDE matrix in the front of the book, please be sure
to look that over and discuss it with your child.
PRIDE stands for:
P- Prepared
R- Respect
I
- Integrity
D- Dependable
E- Environmentally Aware/ Safe
Supplies
There are a few things that were not on
your child’s supply list that our classroom is/will be in need of for different
projects and many daily things. If you
are able to I would appreciate any type of donations for our classroom. Thank
you!
-
Clorox
wipes - Paper towels
- Expo Markers - Kleenex (we always run out of these)
- 1 inch binder
to use as a vocabulary notebook
Assignment Journals
Your child will
be receiving a new assignment journal this year. We will write down what we do each day in
it. If there is homework, it will be
circled or high lighted. Each Wednesday
I look at their journals and make sure they have filled out Monday, Tuesday,
and Wednesday then I sign it. They will
bring it home on that Wednesday night to show you and have you sign it to
return to school on Thursday. If for
some reason it doesn’t get signed on Wednesday night it can be signed on
Thursday and returned on Friday.
We have great
rewards for each quarter for those who miss 2 or less times each quarter. This really helps keep students organized and
makes them more responsible.
School Hours
Our regular
school hours are from 8:25-3:35. If your child arrives after the tardy
bell they will need to report in the
office and get a pass to class. They
should arrive with enough time to put their stuff away and be in class before
the tardy bell rings on all days. Please check your childs assignment journal
for the tardy consequences.
Trojan
Time
We are
implementing a trojan time at the beginning of the day from 8:25-834. Students will go to a staff member around the
school that they are assigned to. This
is a short meeting time to help all feel connected to school and to others at
school. This is going to be a great way
for all of us to make more connections and build relationships.
Fifth grade is an
exciting year and I look forward to sharing it with you and your child. If you
ever have any question or concerns please feel free to contact me here at
school. Let’s have a great year!!!!
